His response:

Thank you.

And, of course, you have composed a piece for that! I'll bet you haven't written a piece for the rape of Tamar (1[I] Samuel 13), or Saul urinating in the cave (1 Samuel 24). Or...have you?

My response:

Certainly!

Thank you for your confidence!  Bet?!  Re Tamar...

(at first I was thinking of the Rape of Dinah in Genesis, which I've also set -- so, thanks for citing I[I] Samuel 13 -- I had to do some digging, but, lo and behold, here it is... evidently I didn't cite chapter and verse of Samuels throughout ensuing work, though, in this movement and a number of others, I included implications of an interpolated Psalm, a la Arthur Honegger's Le Roi David, 1921)...

King David, Op. 69 (November 1, 1998)
Opera-Oratorio for Voices and Orchestra
... Part 3
... XX. Passacaglia of Sex and Death (Psalm 51: 5-19)

[The child that Uriah's wife had borne to David becomes sick and dies]
NATHAN: We are all born in iniquity [Passacaglia, repeated bass-line theme].  We are all conceived in iniquity.
[David comforts Bathsheba, has intercourse with her, and she bears a son, whom David names Solomon]
BATHSHEBA and DAVID [in imitative counterpoint - round]: Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean.  Wash me as white as snow.
JONADAB [to AMNON]: What's with you, man?  Why are you so sad at heart?
AMNON: I am in love with my sister, Tamar [vocalise follows]...
JONADAB: Here's what to do: pretend you are sick and call for her.
TAMAR [reacting to AMNON's advances / overtures]: No!  Don't force me, please!  No!  That's awful! [consenting vocalise follows, interweaving in counterpoint with AMNON]
AMNON [turning against her after the act]: Get out, you slut!  I don't want to have anything to do with you!  Out!
ABSOLOM [in counterpoint to above, presentational, but clearly directed at TAMAR]:  Has Amnon raped you?  Don't tell anyone.  I will seek revenge.
[writing to AMNON]: Come to my banquet [repeat or vocalise]...
AMNON [Reading]: "Come to my banquet" [repeat or vocalise]...
ABSOLOM [to SERVANT]: When Amnon has too much to drink... kill him.

As for Saul relief in the cavern (I took the Good News version as a guide, only recently amused to discover the King James "cover his feet" locution!),
earlier on, in the same composition...

...Part I
...X. In Saul's Camp

This selection, in an older edition at least (which needs updating... perhaps...), fails to include stage directions as to why Saul is in the cave (or for that matter, if there's a cavern at all), and when he exactly leaves... Joab / David dialogue, however, is clearly drawn from I Samuel 24, referring to the king and then calling him thereafter, from afar...

So... I have... pretty much... written the pieces...

See you, rather distressingly (given the lateness of current hour) soon,

Mark

PS pdfs and instrumental mp3s re above, attached...

Chris and I have a chat about above during coffee after the service, and I am very impressed that he took the time to read an email sent at 3:57am before leading the 9 and 10:30am services!
