March 3 - Joyous Anniversary!

Happy 95th-Birthday to George --

who's still amazing and thriving --

Zooming with family here and there,

with cake and, of course ice cream, cards, and

great conversation.

Before this,

the SHS

group,

on a day when

news from Ukraine continues to dominate

(appropriately, given the gravity of the situation --

inappropriately, since Russia has no right to be there),

as Putin / the Russians continue to attempt domination.

The ante is perceptually re-upped

(it has been with us since the start,

not only of this war,

but the entire Atomic Age,

beginning with the Trinity Nuclear Test -- July 16, 1945 -- what a name, since then our capabilty to obliterate Fathers, Songs, and Holy Shit!  Everything, at least on this Earth!)

with Russia's firing around the

Zaporizhzhia Plant on the

Dnieper River,

threatening not only area-wide contamination,

but the enitre World beyond in nuclear conflagration / proliferation... annihilation...

Ah well, if what seems to be the current consensus of scientists that the Universe's ever-expansion at an accelerating rate will lead to an ultimate Big Rip of even the electrons, neutrons, protons of atoms from one another -- we have it coming eventually.  But it would be nice to prolong destruction as long as possible w/r/t our little globe here...

Meanwhile, not entirely without hope, as a huge Russian convoy heading to Kyiv from the north continues to be bogged down; and

the U.S. Seditionist-Traitor inches

closer at least

to the possibility

of justice

(which would require at least prohibition to ever run again from office, and perhaps incarceration or more), with

Stephen Colbert and

Fiona Hill providing insite and balanced-relieving-welcome levity...

on the 44th day of spring (featuring a light rain), high way down 15 to 61 (last 5 days featuring 61 - 4 highs in the low/mid 70's - 61) -- the birthday (175th) also of

Alexander Graham Bell, with other sounds of the day including

J.S. Bach (1685-1750) - Double Keyboard Concerto in C Minor, BWV 1062 (1736, evidently a transformation of the Bach Double Violin Concerto in D Minor, BWV 1043 -- 1930),

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) - Ruins of Athens Overture, Op. 112 (1811),

Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884) - Festive Symphony in E Major, Op. 6 (1854),

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) - Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68 (1876),

Anton Arensky (1861-1906) - Orchestral Suite No. 1, Op. 7 (1885),

Enrique Saborido (1876-1941) - Felicia (1941),

Aaron Copland (1900-1990) - Danzon Cubano (1942), and a

marvelous video on Harry Partch (1901-1974) insstruments -- now caretakered at the University of Washington, after the sad passing of Dean Drummond (1946-2014), who I interviewed years ago in the halcyon days of 20th- / 21st-Century Music.
